Our Practice
What started as an office based, medical vision care practice in Lawton, has grown into be one of the largest eye care facilities in the Oklahoma.
When Dr. Joseph J. Young came to Lawton, Oklahoma over 35 years ago, he had one purpose: to develop a world class ophthalmic medical practice in Texoma.
At the Young Eye Institute, we’ve dedicated ourselves to the preservation and restoration of good vision: staffed by highly trained specialists, equipped with the latest technology and committed to the comfort and care of the patients we serve.
This is the Young Eye Institute.
Innovation.
We constantly strive to bring our patients the best techniques and equipment to maintain clear, healthy vision. From establishing the first Medicare approved ambulatory surgical center in Texoma dedicated to eye care, to being one of the first in the state to perform no-stitch cataract surgery, we always move forward.
This commitment to innovation continues, as we were one of fewer than 100 practices in the United States to provide the revolutionary ALCON LenSx® Laser Cataract Procedure to our patients. Combined with Advanced Technology Lens Implants, our state-of-the-art cataract surgery promises to bring clear vision to cataract patients without the need for glasses or contacts.
Dedication.
No matter how advanced our technology, it takes a highly educated staff of dedicated professionals to give our patients their best vision possible. That is why we’re proud of the exemplary members of our staff who continue to dedicate themselves to being the best in the medical profession.
We live in Texoma and take great pride in our achievements, both professionally and within our community. Our reputation for excellence is second to none, and we constantly strive to improve ourselves as well as the services we provide.
We study hard to improve our services. Continuing education is a key component to maintaining our leadership in bringing new and proven vision restoration procedures to our patients.
Experience.
For over 35 years, Dr. Joseph J. Young and his staff have served patients in Texoma with excellence in vision care. Many of our staff members have been with our practice for well over 15 years.

Advanced Technology
Alcon LenSx® Laser
While all human eyes share the same basic anatomical structure, no two eyes are exactly the same. This is why every eye must be carefully measured and mapped before undergoing cataract surgery. Fortunately, Alcon’s LenSx® laser offers a truly custom-tailored cataract surgical solution.
Utilizing a bladeless, computer-controlled laser and a range of highly advanced technologies, the LenSx® laser captures incredibly precise, high-resolution images of the eyes. These images, along with the precise measurements and key data they provide, are then used to plan and perform a surgery to exacting, individualized specifications not attainable with other surgical methods.
The LenSx® laser performs several of the most critical steps of the surgical process with its image-guided, high-repetition-rate femtosecond laser—one of the most technologically advanced devices of its kind. Femtosecond laser pulses provide the surgeon with an innovative aiming system that localizes specific targets in the eye. The LenSx® laser then utilizes an optical delivery system to precisely deliver those laser pulses exactly where they need to go. The result is extraordinary accuracy—and excellent results.
The LenSx® laser also comes equipped with a unique software control system that analyzes high-resolution images of the eye, helping the surgeon customize the cataract procedure. In addition, the computer-controlled LenSx® laser also visualizes and performs the procedure on command from the surgeon. This ensures the highest precision surgical incisions, plus unmatched accuracy every step of the way.
Light Adjustable Lens™
The Light Adjustable Lens™ (LAL) is the first intraocular lens (IOL) that allows you and your physician to optimize your vision after cataract surgery.
What makes this lens unique is that the shape and focusing characteristics can be changed after implantation in the eye using an office-based UV light source called a Light Delivery Device or LDD.
The Light Adjustable Lens™ itself has special particles (called macromers), which are distributed throughout the lens. When ultraviolet (UV) light from the LDD is directed to a specific area of the lens, the particles in the path of the light connect with other particles (forming polymers). The remaining unconnected particles then move to the exposed area. This movement causes a highly predictable change in the curvature of the lens. The new shape of the lens will match the prescription you selected during your eye exam.
YOUNG EYE INSTITUTE is the first and only practice to offer the RxSight® Light Adjustable Lens™ in the entire TEXOMA region! LEARN MORE
Alcon PanOptix™ and Alcon Vivity™ IOLs
We are proud to be one of the first centers in the nation to offer the Alcon AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® lens implant. It is the first and only trifocal lens implant available in the United States.
The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® IOL is a type of multifocal IOL used to focus images clearly onto the back of your eye (retina) to allow clear vision after the cataract removal. In addition, the center of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL allows for better near (reading) vision and intermediate (computer work) vision versus what a monofocal lens would provide.
Alcon’s newest IOL- AcrySof® IQ Vivity™, allows you to see clearly at the crucial far and intermediate distances while still providing you with functional near vision.

Alcon ORA™ System
The ORA™ (Optiwave Refractive Analysis) System from Alcon continuously monitors refractive measurements of the patient’s eye during cataract surgery. This real-time display is remarkably accurate and allows Dr. Young to customize each individual patient’s procedure to give them their best visual outcome.
When you choose the ORA™ system procedure from the Young Eye Institute, you will enjoy the benefits of:
- an optimized level of precise measurements for each individual’s cataract procedure
- optimal placement of the intraocular lens implant using real-time measurements
- in patients with astigmatism, the ability to improve the outcome of astigmatic correction after surgery
